THE ROAD LESS TRAVELLED

“Two roads diverged in a wood, and

I took the one less travelled by, and

that has made all the difference”

Extract from a Poem by Robert Frost titled

          “ The Road not Taken”

The course entitled the Road Less Travelled is based on a book of the same title, written by Dr. M. Scott Peck an American psychiatrist.  The opening line in his book states that “Life is difficult.”

Scott Peck says “This is a great truth, one of the greatest truths.    He maintains once we see this truth, we transcend it.  Once we truly know that life is difficult – once we truly understand and accept it, then life is no longer difficult.”

He encourages us to live with this truth in a way that encourages us to grow both spiritually and mentally

Over a series of weeks the following topics will be covered to help us face life’s difficulties and to enable us to live our lives in a more responsible and mature way.

Delayed gratification ( Being able to wait to indulge when necessary rather than instant gratification)

Problem solving and time

Responsibility ( responsibility versus blame)

Balance ( How to organise your life in a more balanced way)

Dedication to Reality( living and coping with the present reality rather than living in the past – being able to face our own truth and what is best for us now)

Openness to Challenge and dealing with confrontation

The course involves some reading and personal reflection on the part of the participants.  The process is experiential and requires a reasonable amount of personal sharing.

The facilitator, Mary Kearney is a member of the Orlagh Team. She is a trained and accredited Consultant/ Facilitator.  She is also an accredited Counsellor and Life Coach.  Mary also has training in spiritual accompaniment and has led this course with various groups over the past 15 years.
